デンマークのミニマル・アンサンブル、Copenhagen Clarinet Choirと作曲家Anders Lauge Meldgaard のコラボレーション・アルバム《Jeux d’eau》をリリース。

《Jeux d’eau（ジュ・ドー）》は、実験的アンサンブル Copenhagen Clarinet Choir と、デンマークの作曲家・演奏家 Anders Lauge Meldgaard による探究的なコラボレーションから生まれた作品です。中心となるのは Meldgaard による作曲と、日本発の電子楽器 New Ondomo の演奏。この楽器は1920年代後半にフランスで生まれた最も古い電子楽器のひとつ オンド・マルトノ に着想を得て開発されたもので、Copenhagen Clarinet Choir の鮮やかなエネルギーと冒険心が、Meldgaard の音楽的ヴィジョンに生命を吹き込んでいます。

プロジェクトの着想源となったのは、イタリア・ティヴォリにある Villa d’Este の庭園を Meldgaard が訪れたことに始まります。この場所はかつて Franz Liszt や Maurice Ravel にインスピレーションを与え、彼らは同名のピアノ曲《Jeux d’eau（水の戯れ）》を作曲しました。本作もその系譜を受け継ぎながら、新たな音の旅へと聴く者を誘います。従来の作曲家たちが厳格な構造に重きを置いていたのに対し、Meldgaard はより開かれた形式を採用し、演奏者が即興的に関与できる余地を残しています。 こうした柔軟性が、ミニマル・ミュージック特有の反復の性質に、よりしなやかで心地よい響きを与えています。

コペンハーゲンの The Village で録音されたこのアルバムでは、クラリネット・クワイアの有機的な共鳴と、New Ondomo および電子音の予測不能なテクスチャが交錯する音響体験が展開されます。

《Jeux d’eau》は、構造と自由、前進と反復を絶妙に行き来する音楽です。Terry Riley や Steve Reich といったアメリカの古典的ミニマル・ミュージックに影響を受けながらも、単なる模倣にとどまらず、後期ロマン派的な抒情性を帯びたメロディと豊かなハーモニーにより、反復の厳格さがやわらげられています。加えて、Jo Kondo や Sueko Nagayo のような日本の作曲家に通じる繊細さと明快さも感じられます。作品全体は、躍動と静寂が交差する、遊び心と深みを兼ね備えた音世界を生み出しています。

この作品は、水への賛歌であると同時に、人間と自然の繊細なつながりに対する静かな問いかけでもあります。流れるような形とオープンな記譜法により、音楽は自然のダイナミクスを映し出す鏡のような存在となり、演奏者には即時の気づきと、協調、バランスへの配慮が求められます。水のように、音楽もまた変化し続けるものであり、私たちの環境が常に移ろいゆく存在であること、そしてそれを守る責任があることを、優しくも力強く伝えています。

Anders Lauge Meldgaard：
作曲家・マルチインストゥルメンタリスト。偶然性の作曲法、即興、オープンエンドなスコアなど、幅広い音楽的表現を探求。自身も演奏者として作品に関わることが多く、彼の音楽はジャンルを超えた遊び心と実験性に満ちています。音響的素材の相互作用に重きを置き、アコースティックと電子音が交錯する作品を通じて、構造と直感が絶えず交渉し合う世界を描き出します。代表作には、The Art of Playing the Fantasia（2023 / Sun Ark）、Spirit（2025 / Halvcirkel との共演）などがあり、コペンハーゲンのレーベル兼コレクティブ År & Dag の創設メンバーでもあります。

Copenhagen Clarinet Choir：
2020年に Carolyn Goodwin によって設立された新しい音楽アンサンブル。6本のクラリネットがまるで合唱のように有機的に融合し、温かく鼓動するようなサウンドを生み出します。アンサンブルは対等な関係性を重視し、個々の声がひとつの生きた音響体へと進化していきます。これまでに、スウェーデン・アンダーサボでの滞在制作から生まれた野外作品《Skogsklockor》、2022年の Organ Sound Art Festival のための《Compus Corpus》など、空間に応じた創作を展開。また、Marcela Lucatelli、Greta Eacott、Amina Hocine、そして Anders Lauge Meldgaard ら革新的な作曲家たちと協働し、2025年には東京のレコード・ショップ/レーベル Pianola Records/ Conatalaから新作を発表予定。 デビューアルバム《Organism》は2022年9月に År & Dag よりリリースされ、国際的に高い評価を得ました。The New York City Jazz Record の「2022年ベスト作品」でも言及されるなど、注目を集めています。

Jeux d’eau is the result of an exploratory collaboration between the experimental ensemble Copenhagen Clarinet Choir and Danish composer and performer Anders Lauge Meldgaard. At the heart of the project is Meldgaard’s compositions and performance on New Ondomo—a Japanese instrument modeled on the pioneering French electronic instrument, the ondes Martenot, but what makes the music truly shine is the Copenhagen Clarinet Choir’s vibrant energy and adventurous spirit, bringing Meldgaard’s vision off the page and into a living, breathing soundscape through their playful and imaginative ensemble performance.

The initial spark for Jeux d’eau was struck during Meldgaard’s visit to the gardens of Villa d’Este in Tivoli, Italy—a place animated by fountains that once inspired Franz Liszt and Maurice Ravel to compose piano works of the same title. Echoing these earlier musical impressions, the project channels that lineage into a new sonic journey. Where some composers of the past often sought to define strict structures, Meldgaard’s work on Jeux d’eau instead offers an open framework—one that invites playful interaction and improvisation among the musicians. Recorded at The Village in Copenhagen, the album is a sonic experience where the organic resonance of the clarinet choir intertwines with the unpredictable textures of the New Ondomo and electronic landscape.

The work Jeux d’eau is open yet structured, forward-moving yet richly repetitive, drawing clear inspiration from American minimalists such as Terry Riley and Steve Reich, but rather than simply echoing the work of these pioneers, the music explores fresh terrain infused with a lyrical touch of late-romantic European sensibility, where flowing melodies and rich harmonies soften the rigor of repetition. At the same time, the music resonates with the clarity and delicacy that could be associated with Japanese composers such as Jo Kondo or Sueko Nagayo. The result is a sound world that is playful yet profound, one that continually shifts between pulsating momentum and delicate stillness. With each piece, the ensemble invites listeners into a captivating journey where tradition meets experiment, and where collective performance transforms composition into something vividly alive.

Conceived as a tribute to water and a reflection on the fragile bond between humans and the natural world, Jeux d’eau is both a sonic meditation and a quiet call to action. Through fluid forms and open notations, the work draws listeners into a space where music mirrors the dynamics of nature—demanding real-time awareness, collective sensitivity, and respect for balance. Like flowing water, the music adapts and transforms, reminding us that our environment, too, is ever-changing and in need of care. In this way, Jeux d’eau does more than celebrate nature’s beauty: it asks us to recognize our responsibility to protect the living systems that sustain us, and to pay caring attention to the world we live in. Jeux d’eau will be released worldwide in digital formats on November 12, 2025, with vinyl editions available in Europe on År & Dag and in Japan via Tokyo based conatala.

Anders Lauge Meldgaard:
Composer and multi-instrumentalist Anders Lauge Meldgaard works in a range of musical expressions, including aleatoric composition, improvisation and open-ended scores, often including himself as performer in his pieces. His music resists easy categorization, and is often described as playful, innovative, conceptually driven, unpredictable and kaleidoscopic. Being less concerned with stylistic allegiance than with the interplay of materials, the music of ALM is a place where acoustic and electronic instruments unfolds as a series of sonic proposals, with equal parts formal experiment and intuitive drift, where structure and spontaneity are in constant negotiation. His most recent works include The Art of Playing the Fantasia (2023) for Electronic Woodwind Instrument and eurorack synthesizer, released by Los Angeles based label Sun Ark and Spirit (2025) composed for the string trio Halvcirkel and ALM performing on New Ondomo and electronics. He is a founding member of record label and experimental music collective År & Dag based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Copenhagen Clarinet Choir:
Founded in 2020 by Carolyn Goodwin, Copenhagen Clarinet Choir is a new music ensemble working from an egalitarian approach to its makeup; the interdependent voices shape their collective form as organically as a living organism. Like in a choir, the individual voices of the six similar instruments merge, creating a warm, pulsating body of sound. The result is a profound sonic symbiosis, shaped by the clarinet’s nuances. Copenhagen Clarinet Choir is known for their dynamic site-specific and scenographic performances, such as Skogsklockor, an outdoor work developed during an artistic residency at Andersabo in Sweden, and Compus Corpus, created for the Organ Sound Art Festival in 2022. The group has also commissioned new works by groundbreaking composers including Marcela Lucatelli, Greta Eacott, Amina Hocine, and Anders Meldgaard, with whom they will release a new album in late 2025 on the Tokyo-based label Conatala. The ensemble’s debut album, Organism, was released on År & Dag in September 2022 to critical acclaim and international radio broadcasts. Notably, the album received an honorable mention on the “Best of 2022” list in The New York City Jazz Record.
